| Your local list of bestsellers | | Posted Thursday, February 02, 2006 12:59:28 PM by Rose Martins | Bestsellers are not only confined to the bestsellers list published in your local newspaper and/or magazine. There are bestsellers lists for every possible genre and culture of books. And bestsellers lists are not just limited to physical books.
There are bestsellers lists for online and audio books too. There are bestsellers in fiction books, and bestsellers in non-fiction books. There are bestsellers in the teenage book category and in the religious Christian category.
There are bestsellers of latest releases of new book titles and books that are bestsellers nationally and internationally, and bestsellers within a culture group. Basically every type and genre of book, has a bestsellers list.
With millions of copies of books sold worldwide, getting rated on a bestsellers list is no mean feat. Certain bestsellers lists are held in higher esteem than others, but every bestsellers list carries a certain amount of credibility.
And you might think that bestsellers lists are only of the modern world. Think again. There are bestsellers lists that have been around since the start of the 20th century, and probably some that date even earlier.

| | | From blog to your bookshelf | | Posted Tuesday, November 07, 2006 6:48:55 AM by Blog57 Team | | Seth Godin must have a good head for business, because he's become a bestselling author by bundling together a bunch of things that he also gives away for free and sells them like hotcakes. The Fast Company magazine columnist's latest book, "Small is the New Big," is yet another Godin biz bestseller, but much of it has already appeared on his blog at http://sethgodin.typepad.com/. Godin has a reputation for being among America's best minds when it comes to marketing, establishing his offbeat and entertaining voice in such books as "Unleashing the Ideavirus," "All Marketers are Liars" and "Purple Cow." By his own admission, Godin is something of a ranter, but the rants contain many kernels of insight, and his blog is where he almost invariably rants first. While some of Godin's remarks can seem glib and lack supporting arguments, he's at his best when delving deeper into subjects like "The two things that kill marketing creativity" or "Five common cliches (done wrong)." ?Rob Hubbard, Pioneer Press Bumper crop of mergers Corporations are smitten by the urge to merge as never before.... | |

| | | 1. The right not to read | | Posted Saturday, October 28, 2006 2:49:37 PM by Blog57 Team | | People often tell me that they don't have time to read novels. I never know how to reply. I try to look suitably respectful of their busy lives, the houses and spouses and jobs and children that must require their constant attention, leaving them no time to get lost inside a book. And I try not to give any hint of what I really think of someone who doesn't read novels. .... | |

| | | The mouth that roared | | Posted Tuesday, October 10, 2006 2:47:27 AM by Blog57 Team | | From restaurants to books to TV to crockery, it seems Gordon Ramsay can do anything - except keep his mouth shut, writes Felicity Carter. HE'S a former professional footballer, a Michelin-starred chef, a bestselling cookbook writer, a TV star and the author of a new autobiography, Humble Pie. But what's made him really famous - the reason that people adore watching him - is his foul mouth. Gordon Ramsay is a one-man, plate-hurling, swearing machine. What's coming down the phone line from London to The Age, though, is polite, even charming. "I'm looking forward to Melbourne," he says of his upcoming Australian promotional tour. "It's the food capital, after all, isn't it?" Ramsay says the quality of Australian produce excites him, and he's worried that if he ever stayed here too long he wouldn't want to leave.... | |

| | | The writer behind the gritty JT LeRoy books unmasks herself as a 40-year-old woman | | Posted Saturday, September 30, 2006 10:47:23 PM by Blog57 Team | | SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The author at the centre of an elaborate literary hoax is finally coming clean - or so she says. Laura Albert, 40, a New York City native, is acknowledging that she is JT LeRoy, the supposed male author of gritty, graphic, bestselling novels like "Sarah" and "The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things," which was made into a film. In a story in The Paris Review's fall issue, Albert admits that she invented the character in therapy. Her psychiatrist encouraged her to write down her stories. "I wish I could've had my own voice," she told The Associated Press at a tea party Wednesday in San Francisco. "It's not unusual that people can't be themselves." When an admirer approached and asked her to sign a book, she asked whose autograph the man wanted.... | |

| | | Opinion: The Smoke Is Rising On Climate Change Deniers | | Posted Thursday, September 21, 2006 10:47:33 AM by Blog57 Team | | Intellpuke: The following column was written by George Monbiot for the Guardian's environment section. It appeared in that section Tuesday, Sept. 19. In it he discusses efforts by ExxonMobil to pay organizations and individuals to deny global warming is taking place and also criticizes some British reporters for writing articles making the same claims denying that global warming is happening, claims which Monbiot says are downright false. Mr. Monbiot's column follows: It takes quite a lot to get Britian's most august scientific body, the Royal Society, riled. But now it has had enough. It is trying to bring an end to a ten-year campaign of disinformation about the world's most important scientific issue. Throughout that period, journalists who have no background in science, and who appear to know less about the subject than the average 12-year-old, have been filling the pages of the Mail, the Telegraph and the Times with articles claiming that manmade global warming is a fraud.... | |
