| Internet Bookstores in Japan leave much to be desired. | | Posted Monday, February 06, 2006 11:38:01 AM by Rose Martins | Buying a book via the internet or purchasing a book for download, has become simple in most countries but it appears that Japan is having a problem. Japanese internet book store sites require very high fees, offer poor interactivity and pathetic customer service. Surprising, no? Internet sites such as Amazon and Barnes & Nobles.com offer a huge variety of books, both new and used.
There is virtually no book that one can't buy via these internet ecommerce book stores. Downloading from the internet is the trend of today and definitely the future, and ebooks are no exception.
Customers can download a book from the internet to their PC at home or in the office or to their handheld device, and read it on the move while listening to music. A handheld portable device is much smaller and lighter than a book, especially a hardcover edition.
Books about building websites and/or programming for the internet are great for people wanting to educate themselves and/or just want to keep up with the latest technology. There is also a fortune of information regarding internet to be found on the internet, and often no purchase is required.

It doesn't matter whether I'm eating cereal, sitting in a rink or waiting for an appointment -- I've got to satisfy my craving. That's right -- I'm a reader. (And I guess you are, too.) And yesterday, I met with some other word junkies to talk about some great stuff -- in this case, a novel by a Quebec writer -- and try to get some other folks hooked, too. It was the opening session of London Reads, the fourth instalment of a program begun in 2003 as part of the University of Western Ontario's 125th anniversary celebrations. Modelled after CBC Radio's Canada Reads series, London Reads invites local residents to read along with five pairs of panellists as they debate the merits of five recent books by Canadian writers....

"When something like this happens to a church, it does feel like a betrayal and a sacred trust broken," the Rev. Daniel Hinkle, interim pastor of First UCC, said Friday. | | | Understanding the High Holidays | | Posted Friday, September 15, 2006 6:48:48 PM by Blog57 Team | | It is impossible to reduce an explanation of the High Holidays - Rosh Hashanah, which begins on Sept. 22, and Yom Kippur, which begins 10 days later, on Oct. 1 - to a few simple paragraphs, but to hasten the spirit of ecumenism and understanding, a few basics follow. Much more information, even a glossary of Hebrew terms, is available at any number of Web sites on the Internet, from books at the library, or simply from conversations with a Jewish friend or acquaintance. Rosh Hashanah, literally "head of the year" in Hebrew, bears little similarity to the New Year celebration of Jan. 1, except that the Jewish event does encourage introspection, does invite believers to look back on mistakes of the past year and to plan changes in the new year. It is observed on the first and second days of Tishri, the seventh month, and the holiday that begins a week from today marks the beginning of the year 5767....
